How fast do new reps ramp to full productivity?
№ 149 · Bookings per rep ramp curve
Definition
MetricBookings per rep expressed as a share of full quota productivity, by month of tenure
Unit% of full quota productivity by month since start date
Cumulative bookings per rep by month of tenure, average curve. Reveals true ramp duration. Build by aggregating per-rep bookings across reps by tenure month. Curve plateau is the true productivity ceiling. Example: $20K M1, $80K M6, $200K M12, plateaus at $250K M18.

B2B SaaS AE role at $25K to $100K ASP, North America weighted, 2024 to 2026 data. Full productivity defined as sustained bookings at the ramped quota level rather than first closed deal. · Bridge Group's 2026 average of 6.2 months is the highest recorded across ten biennial editions, up from 5.7 in 2024, and the authors attribute the rise to deal complexity and larger buying committees at higher ASP. The SDR figure moved in the opposite direction, falling to 3.0 months, the lowest since 2010, so ramp is not a single trend across roles. Ramp definition varies widely between companies: time to first deal, time to full quota, and time to consistent quota can differ by three months or more on the same rep, so cross-company comparison of this curve is weaker than it looks. The curve shape matters more than the endpoint, and a curve that rises smoothly to a plateau below 100% is a different problem from one that rises slowly but reaches full productivity.
Category split omitted: Ramp is published as a single average by the primary datasets, and the ASP-band and role splits available come from a single publisher's paired studies or from operator guidance rather than two independent sampled sources.
When it looks bad
The curve flattens below full productivity and stays flat, so reps plateau at partial quota rather than ramping through it, which is a capability or territory ceiling rather than a ramp problem.
Cohort reaches 55% of full quota at month 9 and remains at 55% through month 15.
What to do about it
- Set a ramped quota of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% across the first four quarters and exclude ramping reps from team attainment reporting. This does not accelerate ramp but it stops the ramp cohort from being read as underperformance and exited at month five, which resets the whole curve.
- Hand new reps sourced pipeline for their first quarter rather than requiring them to self-source from zero. Ebsta's 2025 channel velocity data puts partner and referral at 1.3x and paid at 0.68x, so what a new rep is given to work sets their curve before any skill difference appears.
- Hire for experience where ASP is high. Bridge Group 2026 shows required experience at hire rising to 3.7 years from 2.7 in 2022 alongside ramp rising to 6.2 months, and notes that at higher ASPs the junior AE hire is largely over.
- Chart by cohort rather than by individual. Single-rep curves are noisy at typical deal counts, and cohort curves expose onboarding regressions that individual charts hide entirely.
