How much output is each rep generating?

№ 143 · Revenue per rep

Definition

MetricNew ARR booked per ramped quota-carrying rep per year

UnitUSD new ARR per ramped rep per year

Bar chart of trailing-12-month revenue closed by each rep, sorted. Big spread means quota model not working. Build by attributing closed-won deals to reps and summing. The healthy distribution clusters around quota with a small top tier and minimal bottom tail. Example: Top rep $2.4M; median $980K; bottom $340K.

B2B SaaS and B2B AI, $5M to $100M ARR, North America weighted, 2024 to 2026 data. New-business ARR booked per ramped AE per year, excluding reps still inside ramp and excluding renewal and expansion ARR unless the AE owns it. · No publisher reports bookings per rep directly. The figures here are derived by combining median AE quota with median realised attainment, which is the only honest route available. The Bridge Group 2026 puts median AE quota at $960K, and RepVue's Cloud Sales Index puts average attainment near 42.7%, giving roughly $410K. SaaStr's operator guidance of $500K to $1M per rep sits above that, which is consistent because it describes companies at scale rather than the median private company. Benchmarkit's ARR per FTE figures of $240,000 and $283,379 are a different metric entirely, since the denominator is all employees rather than quota-carrying reps, and should not be read as revenue per rep. A further definition split matters: 38% of AEs now carry sole or blended renewal and expansion ownership per Bridge Group 2026, so bookings per rep is no longer comparable across companies without checking what sits inside the number.

When it looks bad

A small number of tall bars carry the team while the median bar sits far below the mean, so the distribution is a concentration chart rather than a productivity chart.

Twelve reps book $5.4M between them, the top two book $3.1M of it, and the median rep books $180K against a $900K quota.

What to do about it

  • Rebuild quota bottom up from segment win rate and current cycle length rather than from a top-down growth target. Bridge Group 2026 shows median quota at $960K against 48% of reps at quota, so quota set above roughly twice realistic median bookings guarantees a failing distribution regardless of coaching.
  • Shift pipeline sourcing toward sales and channel. ICONIQ's 2026 GTM data shows high-growth companies draw 60% to 80% of pipeline from sales and channel versus 15% to 20% from marketing, and Ebsta ranks partner and referral highest on velocity at 1.3x against paid at 0.68x.
  • Redistribute accounts out of the bottom tercile before spending on enablement. Ebsta 2025 found top performers close 11x faster than bottom performers, up from 4x in 2022, so moving territory to ramped mid-performers usually moves total bookings faster than training the tail.
  • Separate ramping reps from the reporting set. With average ramp at 6.2 months, any rep under seven months tenure drags the median without telling you anything about capacity.
